OMG!!!! I don't know what I would do if I was laid off from my job and could not find one in less than two weeks, let alone EIGHT MONTHS! I feel awful for those that are unfortunate to find employment. The most touching story for me was how the first guy got laid off from making high end picture frames. Something about the way he presented himself made my heart drop.
Also, commenting on the story about how the guy was over qualified...they probably don't want to hire him because then if he does do a really good job he might expect the company to increase his pay or give him benefits. When now the worker should just be happy he has a job and not complain, he has no room to complain or ask for an increase or any leverage for that matter...
I am so heartbroken by the fact that we are sending a mass amount of money and soldiers over to other countries, but yet we are having many many many many many problems in our own country, (as many know and wonder what is going to happen with our future). What is there for the average person to do about the effects greedy people had on our country and destroying what we have worked to accomplish over decades?
Thats alot of jobs lost and its only going to get worse before it gets better. I know my family has not escaped the hardship. I havent lost my job but my school savings was..still is in the stock market. Crapy Deal!!!
Ouch! Let’s hope that this doesn’t last for too much longer. We have had our share of downturns and recoveries worse than this one, but to paraphrase Friedman, when you lose your job the unemployment rate isn’t 8%, it’s 100%. -Matthew
It's just so discouraging. The numbers keep going up while everyones income is going down. Hopefully Obama's stimulus plan will bounce things back. It's supposed to turn things around within a calendar year.
Add me to the list folks. I just got layed off yesterday:( Luckily my wife is still working and hasn't been affected by this stuff yet. It's kind of like that movie 28 days later where everybody was reading it in the paper and then all of a sudden it's your next door neighbor.Scary. Next stop bread lines.....
Wow, I am sorry for the people who have lost their jobs. Hopefully you can find one soon and get back on track. My question is I wonder if non-profit organization are affected by the economy in the way that they have to lay people off since they are not funded by the government. Hopefully not because then i would be out of a job too!
I am sorry you got laid off John...if you have any credit cards you can call and tell them you got laid off and they wont make you pay til you get a job!!! :)
Just like that saying goes: "things gotta get worse to get better" is really coming to life in average Americans. I am so tahnkful to God that I still have my job, and it seems pretty safe right now.
I have had a parent lose a job before and it was really hard. But things always have to get bad before they get better. Now he has a great job that will not ever be replaced.
The place that i was working closed in the middle of January and i have still not been able to find a job. It is very difficult right now. I need to find one soon.
That is a lot of jobs! With the downturn of the economy I can't imagine companies expanding or emerging which would create jobs. But hopefully something good will happen.
I really hope the economy bounces back soon. It's not good for so many people to be out of work. From what I've heard the economy has to get worse before it can get better.
John I feel ya. Thank goodness you have a wife that can balance things, at least for a while. My dad has been laid off for 2 months now. Not good with two kids at home. Life sucks.
