You don't really realize just how big the gaps are sometimes. We read about them in Friedman's book and in Class Matters, but seeing a visual representation of it is just astonishing. The biggest gap in unemployment rates when looking at this graph is between having high school diploma and not having a high school diploma. The unemployment gap between these two is 4.7, that's a pretty big difference. This really makes you think twice about dropping out of high school, and as a Running Start student, it assures me that I'm in the right place doing the right thing.
Boy am I glad that I graduated High School, and am attending yvcc to transfer in the fall of 2010. I hope to never be a part of that unemployment gap, and I figure, as long as I stay determined in school and become something of my self... my chances of failure are diminishing. :)
I'm not sure but I thought the gaps would be larger than this. Maybe a doctorate degree doesn't pay off as well as I hoped. This creates problems for me.
This is quite a shocking visual representation. The difference in unemployment and weekly earnings due to level of education is FAR greater than i thought. Does anyone know why there is a higher percentage of people with doctorate degrees unemployed than people with professional degrees?
I am so thankful for what I have, the support I have and I am really proud of myself for sticking with school even though I wanted to quit, but didnt and kept at it.
This was an interesting graph. I am so happy im going to school, because hopefully i will make more money. Im not so sure what i want to do anymore though.
This graph really reassured to me that school is really a good thing. I know it is a battle but we just battle through and in the end could end up on top.
interesting about this graph, they showed us this as seniors in hs, and the diffrence that a dropout vs a college grad would make, but i never really seen what the diffrence between a BA and a specialty would make.
