Ambition, Drug Cuts and Student Protests

If you think Drug and Alcohol education programs are a good solution to obstacles, things just got a bit harder.

If you are working on how to create a spark, here's an idea from Today's Paper: Young Achievers.

And if you are interested in education costs and visibility of the conditions of the working poor, YVCC and Berkeley have you covered.

The article about funding being cut for drug abuse counselers was interesting to be because I remember having them at my school before i graduated and how helpful they were to students. We have to find a way to make up for this budget shortage

Cutting money for drug abuse counselors in schools is not where we should be shorting assistance. This will only lead to more problems in the long run. We will inevitably end up spending more money on jails in the future.

I graduated from a school where we did have a drug abuse counselor but I know that a majority of students did not know that we had one. The only reason I knew is because I was part of student government and my student government office was right next to her office. I know that they are important but maybe they should be publicized more because kids who have these drug related problems may not know the resources they have to help them.

The Young Achiever's article will definitely help me out in my essay because my main point is creating this "Spark". I thought it was awesome that over 400 people attended this event!

Go ahead and cut the drug abuse programs. As I witnessed at my school, none of the students in the program were actually serious about it; it was all a joke to them. Since when does alcohol get rid of the pain describe by the girl. If I am correct, she should remember the problems more and more while she is drinking. You can't just use every problem for a reason to drink or abuse drugs.

I really liked the example they used in the "Young achievers" article because lately i've noticed that kids are being awarded according to their performance at any level. they are devided up in groups according to their ability and then given an award for participation. I think that to increase participation and competition, everyone must get noted for things they have done that are exeptional at a general level. (They should be compared against everyone's intelligence level instead of that of the ten others that are in their math class)

I'm a little iffy on this subject. I do agree that drugs are a problem in today's society, but I don't know if it should be mainly a school problem. I feel parents should be involved with keeping their children off the streets and off drugs. But, then again I believe that, coming from a family where both of my parents work full-time jobs, that this could be a major problem... So, I don't really know what to say... :(

I feel like drugs result in from the lack of parental supervision and the lack of time spent from parents with their children. Although since we live in a society taht lacks that, then maybe it is a good idea to get outside help.

The alchohal article i though was ok. I just find it hard to believe that she turned to it because of that and even if she did it takes away the pain? I dont know i just dont agree!
