Debated in the NYTimes

Meanwhile, watch the video with this long article and think about how this works in Distance Ed classes.

Super interesting about the teachers. It's true; a good teacher imparts a lot of knowledge and wisdom. A good teacher inspires and encourages, and the kids respond.

Long article... considering that the teachers are the ones who are face to face with kids during the learning process, it seems appropriate to make sure are teachers have got it together.

I think the most important thing a good teacher can do is to encourage the students. When you can inspire and encourage your students they will have a reason to do good, and also because they have some one who believes in them.

While online education has it's pros for some, I feel that it is part of the process to get up and attend class with a teacher and your peers. You become more accountable when you have people counting on you. There are those,
however, that need to take online classes for reasons such as flexibility or phobias

I have only ever retained information from a class where my teachers made learning fun. This article basically said it all.

Yes, I have been in classes where I don't even remember the teacher's name, let alone what they taught. I agree that a good teacher helps students to engage in activities, and want to learn more about the subject. Teachers play a huge role in inspiring their students to want to do better in life.

OH My, very long article. But on the brighty side, Mr.Peters said in class that he wanted to be a better teacher, so this is all for him.
Peters, you are a super great teacher who is defintely not boring.

dang- hard to get through this one, but it was very interesting.Every single one of my favorite classes have been from the instructors who required the most from me and who enjoyed the subjects they were teaching. Essentially, the best classes were the hardest, but only because the instructor genuinely wanted us to learn, just as the article explained.

Long article! I agree with this article though on how the classes that are fun, are usually challenging but only because the teachers wanted us to understand and to learn. Definetly a good article to read for the one who are aspiring to become teachers in the future!

Teachers can only do so much to encourage kids to learn and continue with their education. It also is up to parents to push and motivate their children. But most importantly, it takes ambition from within a student as well.

I can remember when i had teachers who were just "there" to be there, not really passionate about what they did. I think thats why i tuned some of them out, and just didnt care what they had to say. Anyone in teaching, heck selling or any career field, the more passion, knowledge, and drive to win always succeed. I also think they need to have an evaluation of teachers attitudes, and get rid of those who are just "there".

I agree with this! IF we dont have good teachers then we are going to do good in school. whenever i have a bad or mean teacher it just makes me not want to pay attention and to fall asleep! Teachers are extremely important!
