One important thing to keep in mind is that when our economy sucks and consumers do not have extra money to spend, smart companies will look for markets to sell their goods and services in order to keep their employees working and try to keep the company healthy. With the flattening of the world, it has become much easier to target markets around the world instead of around the corner or in the next town. Without the ability to sell to foreign markets, most of those companies would have failed. It is just good business to invest in the market area where you are doing business so the company can build trust and respect with its customers; just like we enjoy here. Also, by selling our goods and services elsewhere, along with teaching and employing citizens in other countries, we are exporting the American lifestyle and ideals while boosting those areas of the world that may indeed become even bigger customers for American companies. We must realize that we do need to insure that we are educating workers to thrive in this type of ‘world environment’, something that we, as a country, have not done well. As Jeffry Sachs, of Columbia University, pointed out, "We are not fulfilling the educational needs of our young people," he said. "... There are serious consequences to that."

It just goes to show that Americans are greedy. If the company they work for make a huge profit and doing very well, the employees seem to think they need a raise out of it thereby increasing costs. If I were a business owner, I personally would try to "home source." If, in the end, that did not meet the $$ then I would outsource overseas as well.

This is not surprising at all because we all know about it. All the jobs are going overseas and we have more and more unemployment. I hate this, I really hope that the economy recovers soon!

This is a shame. I'm not sure if its a sense of greediness or a need for cheaper labor because of the recession but either way it bad to see that high of numbers in unemployment. Makes me fear for my place in the working world once I finish school.
