12. How to handle CM in text and in works cited:

A Work in an Anthology, Reference, or Collection

Works may include an essay in an edited collection or anthology, or a chapter of a book. The basic form is for this sort of citation is as follows:

Lastname, First name. "Title of Essay." Title of Collection. Ed. Editor's Name(s). Place of Publication: Publisher, Year. Page range of entry. Medium of Publication.

Some examples:

Harris, Muriel. "Talk to Me: Engaging Reluctant Writers." A Tutor's Guide: Helping Writers One to One. Ed. Ben Rafoth. Portsmouth, NH: Heinemann, 2000. 24-34. Print.

Swanson, Gunnar. "Graphic Design Education as a Liberal Art: Design and Knowledge in the University and The 'Real World.'" The Education of a Graphic Designer. Ed. Steven Heller. New York: Allworth Press, 1998. 13-24. Print.

Note on Cross-referencing Several Items from One Anthology: If you cite more than one essay from the same edited collection, MLA indicates you may cross-reference within your works cited list in order to avoid writing out the publishing information for each separate essay. You should consider this option if you have several references from a single text. To do so, include a separate entry for the entire collection listed by the editor's name as below:

Rose, Shirley K., and Irwin Weiser, eds. The Writing Program Administrator as Researcher. Portsmouth, NH: Heinemann, 1999. Print.

Then, for each individual essay from the collection, list the author's name in last name, first name format, the title of the essay, the editor's last name, and the page range:

L'Eplattenier, Barbara. "Finding Ourselves in the Past: An Argument for Historical Work on WPAs." Rose and Weiser 131-40. Print.

Peeples, Tim. "'Seeing' the WPA With/Through Postmodern Mapping." Rose and Weiser 153-67. Print.

I am definitely one of the people who needed to see those videos today in class. Getting myself to work on this last essay has been difficult. It's starting to come though, I am almost done and it's not even midnight. Thank you Mr. Peters for the help. And boy, I just feel awful for the football player. The second half of the story definitely caught me by surprise. I cannot believe that he made that big of a mistake twice.

the videos were great and thanks for the citation info, i wasn't totally sure on how to do that.....but i guess it was kind of obvious that it's an anthology....

The slideshow of Juan Peralta's life really opened up my eyes. I've never lived through poverty but to see it with my own two eyes, it was crazy. I couldn't imagine living with three other families in a 9x9 1 bedroom apartment. This was just another eye opener to me telling me I must keep going with my education and not stop until I have a full degree.

Thanks for the anthology form. I wouldn't have known how to cite Angela Whitiker's Climb otherwise.

Going over immigration made me want to put so much more into my essay... i was tempted to change the whole topic to immigration because there is so much to talk about it. It is people like Peralta who don't want to adapt to the American culture that get left behind because people don't want to hire others who can't speak to customers.

Peralta's story is really sad and something more sad about his life is that he never came out of poverty. His story was touching and it made me realize that there are people who live in 9*9 bedrooms. We should be thankful to god that we atleast have our own homes and there are people who don't.

I’m glad Yakima transit will be adding Sunday service beginning in April. My wife and I both use the bus for commuting to school, but where we need to improve is getting the whole family on it for outings. I have taken all the kids a few times but they still look at it as a carnival ride. Hopefully on Sundays I can get them on more often and they’ll start to simmer down a bit.

I love these videos. It is really hard not to let up a little at the end of the quarter, but this is when we need to push ourselves the most. These videos keep me motivated to not let up until my last final is completed. Thanks! However, I sure feel sory for Leon!

Those videos made me realize how similar I am to those people! The last week of every quarter I start to kick back and it's true, I'm not finished yet. Mr. Peters sure knows how to "show" us how important it is to stay focused until the end!

It is good that the Yakima Transit is adding Sundays to their schedule. I occasionally like to ride the bus and listen music with my headphones on. When I lived in Seattle I used to do it all the time. I think this is great for people who depend on the transit system to get them to and from places.

I think transportation services are going to be one of those things that will make more "smart" people comfortable here. I mean, in Seattle and larger cities, transit is essential. The idea that we are so behind on transit further proves we are not ready for people to come to Yakima even if we could bring them here.

I think that Colbert makes a good point that we need to start emphasizing more on solar and wind power energy sources rather than oil and coal.

Gosh Mr.P you really help us out a lot. Again writing this paper I had no idea how to cite the story out of "Class Matters." By posting this you saved me a couple of hours driving my self nuts, searching the internet for the correct way to cite this.
