It seems to me, that we need to put all of our good ideas into a vault. Just lock them away so nobody knows what they are except us so that they can't take them and use them. But, of course this is never going to happen, and perhaps that is largely due to globalization and the fact that everyone's business is everyone's business on the internet. Like solar power, how is it that this was us, our idea, our big moment, and we just let them take it and run with it? I think that its interesting they said that this could be because China doesnt have to run every stinkin thing through congress, and I see that that could be a big part of it, but as individuals I think that there is alot more we could be doing to get ourselves ahead.

I really feel that Steven Colbert's character that he plays in this interview and in his show in general gives an accurate depiction of a good majority of Americans who think were #1 and that will never change if we do things the same and that scares me.

I wonder if Evan Osnos is from Chile. He looks like my sister's ex-boyfriend who was. I also wonder if its hard to really discuss anything with Colbert cracking jokes right and left and speaking over him. It was interesting to me that none of the info in this clip was new to me because we have discussed it all in class.

Colbert is to funny to have a serious conversation with. Lucky that is how his show goes. It is very informative when you do understand that Colbert talks about issues that are happening in America, but twists it up with humor. He grabs my attention when I see his shows because of the humor. Then I am in tune with what they are getting the message across.

I agree Cicily that it wasn't any news to me either. Although I am glad to see that it is being broadcasted on television and internet so that it will encourage citizens to step up to the plate and support our "green" ideas and put pressure on our leaders to follow through on the ideas. It doesn't do any good to have these alternate choices if we don't pursue it. Oh wait, I guess that's what we leave the other countries to do!

I liked this video. Its informative and entertaining at the same time, which makes it easier to pay attention.

I liked the interplay between Colbert and Osnos in this piece. They both did an excellent job in getting points across and making it entertaining to watch. Talking about China and what they may or may not be up to is an interesting subject at any time.

This video just backed up all the stuff we have been learning. We have been on top and nobody was doing anything but watching. Now that they know our tricks they are going to speed up and pass us fast. Which is why we need people to quickly think of the next big thing that will once again put us on top.
--- I would go crazy getting interrupted every 5 seconds by Colbert!!

Colbert was really funny and this video was really entertaining. It was funny along with some important information. I think China is really racing ahead of us, so we need to improve our economy and compete with China in order to stay on top of everyone.

I love watching Colbert. He is so funny and it is hard to get a word in while talking to him. However, I think he had some main points of how China is gaining momentum and racing ahead of us. We really need to focus on our flattening world in America.

Even though this video is funny, you have to look past the funny parts because behind all the joking around there is nothing funny about the dark alley that our country is walking towards with our flash light batteries dying and the ones with the solar powered flash lights have the upper hand.

^^Freakomania & the idea of locking up ideas: Isn't that contradicting free trade? It's not enough anymore to just create the ideas, we have to become the best at implementing those ideas. That way, the ideas are valueless without our people to back them up.

Americans seem to have these blinders on: if their family and friends are not being hurt they don't think outside of their bubble. And if Americans do feel like paying attention to the news, it has to be entertaining. Cough*Colbert*Cough. I mean I think it's funny too, but can anybody say feeding the masses?

I think that what Colbert is trying to say is that there are some ways around things but it is up to us if we want to change those things. I also think Colbert is infisizing on that religion is flawed but not just one but many.

I watch comedy central pretty often, and until I took your class last quarter I never watched Colbert. He is truely brilliant and he makes all the boring stuff interesting to me. This post cracks me up!! And it terrifys me, because it pretty much sums up what we have been learning this quarter. But like they talk about the chinese are studying us now, and they aren't as creative as us, so I still have hope in our country!

This was really funny! I like it how when we watched this show in English 101 Colbert was no match for the author of smoke signals with his cracking of jokes but anyone else hes all over them. Still Evan Osnos got his point across with many interruptions at that.

This was a funny clip. I really enjoy how interesting Mr. Peters makes this class. I came in thinking that this was going to be another lame English class, but it's been an interesting quarter!

Colbert is so annoying. He doesn't let Evan Osnos say everything he needs to say. We could probably learn more from Evan then from Colberts dumb jokes. They are funny, but not too much.
