I believe that this is do to the increase in minimum wage. slight federal guidance is okay, but when you step past your desired parameters as a goverment you can shock and even destroy a well working system

I hear your point, but the feds have not raised the minimum wage in years. Do you mean because the states have raised them?

When I read the caption below one of the pictures that said, "The Labor Department says 524,000 jobs were lost in December, bringing the total for 2008 to 2.6 million". My jaw dropped. If you think about the things that we have been talking about in class, and how easy it is to lose your home, I don’t even want to know how many families lost their homes during winter break. The sad part is the fact that the number of people who aren’t employed doesn’t count all of the people who didn’t apply for unemployment. That means there are even more families that are going without or even worse, going hungry.

I think what is sad is what percentage of homeless people actually DO have full or part time jobs....in Nickle and Dimed on page 26 it says that one fifth of the homeless are employed...i think there is something wrong with that the fact that people WITH jobs cannot even afford housing. What about the unemployed?!?!?
