Mombots

Here's a glimpse of the future in the kitchen

Seems like some pretty big investments are being made to fund for these cool projects. In 2006, a quarter of a million spent by a couple of countries (Shenzhen and China), to build a robot that can cook. I guess this is a start to a brighter future. Friedman mentions how other countries have been funding technology, which is what is needed to survive in a flat world, and how Bush cut money towards programs like the National Science Foudation. It is necessary for Universities like this one to further educate our small group of engineers so that we can stay ahead of the game.

I thought that the cooking robot was amazing. I think that the people involved in making the robot had great ideas. It looks like the future is going to be very technical. Especially if companies are spending millions to produce these massive machines to talk, deliver and cook. Makes you think of what jobs that people will be doing if the robots take away the jobs that people have done forever? But a very interesting story.

The part about the robots interacting with people was a bit scary, and it was almost like creating a different life-form. I remember my brother was telling me about a new product that was coming soon, and that was a virtual reality headset that basically was like a virtual blackberry. The science fiction stuff that we thought could never happen is coming true, a lot sooner than any of us ever thought.
On another note, I'm not suprised that they said the robot's cooking was kind of dead. Because cooking is a lot more than a science, it's also an art form and requires emotion to create truly good food.

"Open the pod bay doors HAL" I think its funny that they are trying to lure people to robots using food. The first think I would think when I saw a robot cooking for me and talking to me would not be "Oh, it feeds me...it can be all THAT bad." Is it just me or does anyone else notice the connection between that mombot and the house from Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains"?

That seems to be where things are headed, I mean look at the last page of the story "In the kitchen, an instant before the rain of fire and timber, the stove could be seen making
breakfasts at a psychopathic rate, ten dozen eggs, six loaves of toast, twenty dozen bacon strips,
which, eaten by fire, started the stove working again, hysterically hissing!" THE HOUSE IS COOKING BREAKFAST. COOOOOOOOKIIIIIIIING BREAKFAST(in case you didn't catch that)!!!!!! and not only that, but the year of the story was 2026, the last line being "Today is August 5, 2026, today is August 5, 2026, today is…" So I don't know about you, but that whole thing is creeping me out. Of course, alot of his stuff kind of does...

This is shocking to see how much robots can do. Its kinda scary, after seeing this video in class all i could think about is "WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN ROBOTS TAKE OVER THE WORLD?" Its so cool what people can do now with computers. This is the future, but i can't help to think about how lazy we already are, and that robots will just make us more lazy and obease as a nation.

I think this is crazy! I can't believe we have come this far! By 2050 we should for sure have many robots living among us. It says that they are making them become smarter and smarter and more normal/human like behavior. But this scares me especially after seeing movies like IRobot! lol

Robots are gonna take over our world. Its crazy and dumb to think that but honeslty it can happen, look at what all has been created and still in the process of (cow manure for energy!)It is also scary when you think about it because now having robots taking over humans can happen!
