I think that Obama makes a really good point. There are too many single parents that are left to raise their children without a male role model in their child's life.
I am a little saddened about the release of private conversations by the media. What Jackson said was terrible, but it was a private statement. Should we not have the right to vent our frustrations and even say something stupid in private once in a while? -Matthew
I find it interesting that people would be shocked by the language used by the so called Reverend Jackson, this is the same man who had a child by some woman he isn't even married to. I get it,"it all boils down to one thing dirty politics. So he got caught, oh you could ignore it as just mere frustration, I however see it from the view that he spoke out of the abundance of his heart.
Reverend Jackson should be a great example to the black community but he isn't. Having a baby out of wedlock and making comments like that show you the type of person he really is. Yeah he was frustrated but only because he felt Obama was talking about him! Instead of Reverend Jackson he should be called Not-a-Reverend Jackson..lol.
That was a sad that the press released Jackson's sound byte. It's embarrassing to think that this passes as relevant information. In response to Publius, I think we absolutely have the right to vent and sound stupid in private. You have to get the poison out.
I want to give kudos to Obama for standing up for fathers and calling them to be there for their children. I do not understand why Reverend Jackson thought Obama was talking down to the men. I heard Obama encouraging the men of the United States to step up and be the fathers that they all ready are. Sometime people need a little bit of encouragement to realize they have more potential than they thought.
Word Dave, it is not relevant information. There is an old Soviet dissident saying that I believe applies to the mainstream media today. “There is no izvestia in Pravda, and there is no pravda in Izvestia.” Pravda and Izvestia were the two major newspapers in the communist Soviet Union. Pravda means “Truth” and was run by the communist party, and Izvestia means “The News” and was run by the Soviet government. I realize that we have a free press and I am by no means saying that our information is controlled, but it is a useful comparison. When we get news it lacks truth, and when we get truth it lacks news. -Matthew
I agree with Obama that to many fathers are missing out of kids lifes. Not only fathers but mothers to, whether it be from illness or betrayal. I know how it is not having an active father in your life and it isnt easy, it leaves you with a lot of questions.
I know this is a little late, but I just wanted to post to say I disagree with some of the opinions on Jesse Jackson's comments. Jackson was in a public setting, in front of cameras no less. The fact that it was a private conversation is irrelevant, I feel. Jackson presents himself as a leader, so he should act like one. Now whether this should pass as relevant news is another question.
